The Great Outdoors
We take our children on regular outing to explore the great outdoors as we believe that children learn a great deal from the world around them. Active outdoor play increases health and physical development therefore encourages sensory development and stimulating brain cells. Being outdoors exposes the children to the sun providing them with vitamin D which helps with strengthening bone and development, promotes better moods & memory, increases energy levels and overall health.
Lions Cub Nursery is set in a prime location for exploring the outside world, we are opposite the beach giving our children plenty of opportunity to explore similarities and difference in the pebbles, searching for seaweed, crab claws, shells etc and learning about being safe around water. Princes Park, Whitley wreck and the Archery Park are all in walking distance giving the children plenty of opportunities to develop their large physical skills. We also use the large playing fields at Princes Park and Whitley wreck for group games like football, or sports day races. Princes Park is home to a large lark where we can feed the swans and duck and has a sensory garden for bug hunting.
We also take the opportunity to use the local shops along seaside as part of our learning experiences, buying stamps from the post office to post a letter, buying ingredients from the local shop to use in our cooking, going to the bakery to make gingerbread men and even going to the florists to choose some flowers for a teacher birthday. All these opportunities and experiences build up our children’s knowledge, skills and experiences they need in later life.
